So, That Happened

Here we are again! It’s been ages since I’ve posted here, but given *gestures around everywhere* I’m thinking once again of dusting off this blog and using it as an outlet for my angst, of which I’m sure I’ll be having record amounts.

More to come soon, I hope. But for now, to follow up on my previous post about (then) Twitter, I have left X/Twitter and deleted my account. I couldn’t stand any more time hanging out in that virtual Nazi bar and even marginally enriching cartoon villain Elon Musk. If you’re still there, I suggest you consider doing the same. Some people may think they’re staying there to fight the good fight and keep the platform from becoming a complete cesspool, but I think it’s a lost cause.

For now you can find me over at Bluesky under the handle @bruiserchgo.bsky.social Things have been picking up there and it is much more lively than it was, and much less toxic than the other place. If you haven’t checked it out–or checked it out a while back and found it too dead–come on by! You’ll get a warm welcome, from me at least!

My new goal

I have a new goal: publish at least one new blog post per week. There is so much to write about these days! Even if no one reads it, it will still help getting stuff off chest. Because we are living in very frustrating times!

And no, this doesn’t count as my one for the week. I am home alone tonight without anything particular to do, so I can hopefully crank out a substantive piece. Wish me luck!

Potpourri

potpourri bowlJust some quick updates and tidbits worth mentioning:

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson failed to veto the AR law stopping municipalities from expanding anti-discrimination protection beyond what is contained in state law. After the veto deadline passed, Walmart, the state’s largest employer, said they were against it. Too little, too late.

And I apparently wrote too soon in my previous post on Arkansas, as a “religious freedom” bill was also working its slimy way through the legislature there. This was, of course, another law meant to allow people to discriminate against LGBT folks and hide behind a shield of “religion”. But there is good news! In this case, Walmart weighed in against it before it was too late, and (as if by magic) the next day the Senate panel considering the legislation rejected it.

Late last week, a similar bill in Georgia was tabled by a Senate committee there, after it was opposed by a very unlikely critic: former GA Attorney General (GA AG) Michael Bowers, who once (successfully) argued in favor of Georgia’s anti-sodomy law! Bowers released a statement saying “It is not just bad public policy; it is ill-conceived, unnecessary, mean-spirited and deserving of a swift death in the General Assembly.”

Here is another piece on the so-called “social science” attacking gay parenting making the rounds among conservatives, which makes reference to the post I recently re-blogged. It’s worth a read on its own merits.

Notice something different? After using the same theme on this site for a couple years, I decided to try changing it up. It should work well on computers, tablet and smartphones. How do you like the new look?

Why I don’t blog more

Why don’t I post on here more often? Not for lack of things to say. I have too much to say, which is the problem. I struggle with brevity in my writing. I don’t think I ramble, I’m just very thorough when I discuss something. But that takes time and energy. And I have to be in the mood. And finally, I don’t think anyone really wants to take the time to read my verbose near-treatises, so why bother writing them in the first place?

So I haven’t abandoned or forgotten about this blog, but I am certainly neglecting it. And surprisingly that’s all I have to say on this subject.

Bruiser Blogs

This is my new blog. My old one is caput. I will miss it, but it’s time to move on. I’ll try to use Google’s cache of my old blog to bring some stuff over, but most of it will not make the cut. It’s a time for changes.

I haven’t been blogging much in the last year or so, but with another election cycle now in full swing, I have a feeling I’ll be needing an outlet for my ranting, and the 140 characters Twitter allows is barely enough to get started. Also, some big changes are coming up for me (stay tuned!) and this will give me a place to document them.

I can’t promise I’ll blog with any regularity. This is really out here for me, but if people read it all the better! If you do read, please leave comments to let me know. Dialog is fun, yo!

That’s all for now. More to come soon.
